PNC Bank ATM robbed me

So I went to an ATM last week to withdraw money. The ATM is attached to a PNC branch, so I figure it is most reliable. The machine gave my card back, and I could hear the money being counted and then nothing…. The money slot never opened up and an error message popped up noting “You did not take your money in time. Please contact your financial institution.”. IT NEVER OPENED.

Luckily a very nice PNC employee was holding the door for other customers and witnessed what happened. PNC does not own the ATM’s so they have to file a dispute through the ATM company. Well, it’s been about 6 days and the dispute is still pending. Oh and the money the ATM did not give me was taken out of my account. So for that day I had to withdraw 2x the amount of money I wanted. I figured they would give me a credit to cover while the dispute went on but nothing. Now the end of the month right before Christmas I could use that money!!

Thinking of leaving PNC.

Nobody robbed you.

Depending on how the ATM is set up, it is probably serviced no more than once weekly by the armored car. It will indeed take time to reconcile the ATM and get things set straight. This is becoming more and more common.

I figured they would give me a credit to cover while the dispute went on but nothing.

Banks give provisional credit after ten days.

Thinking of leaving PNC.

This could have happened at any bank. If you want to leave PNC, leave for a real reason, not something that could have happened the same way anywhere else.

This literally can happen at any bank. With any ATM.

What’re you going to do when you switch accounts just for it to happen all over elsewhere?

It will get reconciled this does happen occasionally at ATMS. Keep on letting them know the scenario and stay on it. It may take a week or so until the machine is serviced. It sucks though, so close to Christmas.

I hate to tell you the obvious, but PNC is not in the business of manufacturing ATMs. Other than the brand logos they use the same ATM vendors are used for 98% of the financial services fleet. The exact same ATM make and model will likely be used in some capacity at another bank. Even if we remove the ATM out of the equation the Operations for servicing will likely mimic that of most institutions designed around physical security specifications.

if it was the bank’s they would have gave you the credit call customer service speak with a supervisor.
