It’s a personal check from my boss. I’m one hundred percent positive it isn’t an old check as I tried to deposit it on the mobile app about 30 seconds after he wrote it. Tried multiple times, same message. Called customer service after a very long wait they basically told me that if I knew the check was good to deposit it in an ATM. I asked them what if the atm denies it and she said that it would work if the check was good.
So tried the ATM and it spit the check out when I clicked finish and said “account unavailable”. This made me think something was wrong with my account but the person on the phone didn’t mention anything wrong with it and I transferred 2 dollars from my checking into my savings after to see if it worked and it did.
Check appears to be perfectly fine besides maybe sub par handwriting. What gives? Banks ridiculous covid hours make it pretty much impossible to go there in person
All the banks have crappy technology when it comes to mobile deposits. I work at a bank receive a paycheck from that very bank, and the app has so much trouble accepting the check, that was written by THEM!!! As long as you don’t see a deposit into your account for that amount, then keep trying.
Well if you did a mobile deposit and they said they recieved it. Then you may have to wait due to a hold? If that isn’t the case where is the check drawn from? Is your institution the same as your boss? The issue could be the check cleared his account already and possibly he has fraud on his account?
They confirmed it didn’t go through when I talked to customer service and there’s nothing in my history. It’s a personal check from my boss, we both have TD bank. Yeah I was thinking it could possibly be something wrong with his account, I told him to call the bank but he’ll probably ignore it and just give me cash.
If your boss has ever written you a check for the same amount with the same check number, it probably will be flagged as a duplicate.
Does he write checks to you often for common, even amounts like $100 or $500? Is the check number a low number like 99, 100, 101?
I see a lot of small businesses using starter or temporary checks and repeating numbers. I know it’s difficult to go into a branch, but you should try. Or maybe a drive up if they have any in your area.
Oh nice, I think you figured it out. It’s a super small place and he has this weird system with the taxes where he cuts me a 100 dollar check, gives the rest in cash and takes the taxes out of the cash. Everything always matches on my W-2s so I don’t complain. He just ended up giving me cash when I explained that it wasn’t working but at least I’ll know what to do if it happens again.
