I found out that an elderly family member only has their debit card. But does not have any bank account records anymore. They do not know their bank account number. It is not written down anywhere. They do not receive paper bank statements. They do not do online banking. There are no checks. They still go to a bank teller to withdraw money.
Just for reassurance and record keeping, I’m helping them get a copy of their full bank account information. What do we need to bring to the local branch to get this information? Is their state ID and their social security number enough for verification? Can the banker help provide the full account number along with setting up paper bank statements again?
A valid drivers license or state ID should be plenty to get him verified in a branch. Most institutions will charge a paper statement free every month, jsyk. If you could help him get set up on online banking he could print them from home and avoid the paper statement fee.
Thanks. Banks charge paper statement fees now? Can you list some banks that do that?
Most branches of you ask can also print the statements in branch. When they go to do their withdrawal from the teller can ask for them, and or call ahead and have them ready for pick up.
